• 2 250 Wishes Granted

MAY 1, 2019 | VICTORIA, B.C.—The Naramata Bench Wineries Association unveiled their spring portfolio last week in Victoria, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of BC & Yukon’s cup ranneth over because of the event.

“For two years now,” explained Simone Conner, Vancouver Island Director, Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon, “we’ve held a fundraiser in Victoria that helps us grant wishes to kids living with critical illnesses, and the Naramata Bench Wineries Association’s participation has been key to our success.”

At ReWined, held Wednesday, April 24th at Victoria`s Crystal Garden, attendees were among the very first to sample spring portfolio wines from more than 20 Naramata-area wineries who came to showcase their new vintage. As well, Victoria area restaurants and food providers joined in to serve up bite-size eats to compliment the wine. The ticket sales, as well as funds raised through a silent auction and a feature raffle, all went toward granting wishes for Vancouver Island kids through Make-A-Wish.

“The Naramata Bench Wineries Association is proud to be a supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation and the ReWined Victoria Event for the last two years,” said Tina Baird, Marketing Director for the association. “As an association of wineries, we are happy to share our wines for this worthy cause and support Vancouver Island’s children in having their wishes come true.”

“We`re always so impressed with our fellow islanders,” said Conner, “and how willing they are to show up to support a good cause. Because of them, the support of the local businesses who sponsored our event, and the Naramata Bench Wineries Association, we`re going to be able to grant more wishes this year. We`re so thankful.”

Baird said that the relationship with Make-A-Wish has been great so far. “It is a pleasure to work with Make-A-Wish, and with [Simone] Conner, the primary organizer of ReWined. [Conner] is so professional and organized, not to mention passionate, and all the volunteers involved are great to work with.”

Conner’s passion comes from her history with Make-A-Wish: her own son, Ryan, was granted a wish to meet Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin back in 2011.

“For Ryan, and for every kid granted a wish before or since,” said Conner, “I know the positive power a wish can hold. Through events like ReWined, we get to make more wishes come true. I’m already looking forward to next year’s event.”

Baird echoed that sentiment, saying “We look forward to an evolving relationship to support the efforts of ReWined and Make-A-Wish.”
