“Standing face to face with a curious but relaxed polar bear, with only deer fencing separating you from such a magnificent animal at home in its natural habitat – we were fully aware that this wish was outside the typical scope of wishes.” - Zachary’s Mom, Sarah.
Travelling from Kaleden, BC, 8 ½ year old Zachary with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) & Renal Failure wished to see polar bears in their natural habitat.
“We were so very fortunate to travel to Churchill, Manitoba as part of the Birds, Bears & Belugas Adventure. Everyone went out of their way to make Zachary’s wish extra special – from the onset of his wish to the moment we arrived the outpouring of kindness was quite remarkable and extremely touching.
To be so close that you could count the mosquitoes on the bear’s nose and see the saliva on his teeth; speeding across the pristine blue Hudson Bay in a Zodiac boat with unabated squeals of pure joy from two little boys, as dozens of whales surfaced around us; marveling in the beauty of the abundant flora on the tundra; admiring the magnificence and elegance of polar bears swimming in the Bay; the list goes on and on.
Memories of Zachary’s illness are indelibly etched in our hearts & we will never forget those desperate days – but in contrast, the memories of our experiences at Churchill Wild become more vivid each time we look at photos & share our stories.
We are so thankful for the generosity that has enabled our family to experience an incredible journey together where wonderful memories have replaced the difficult ones.”
