Before joining Make-A-Wish, Nancy was directing Community Partnerships at Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Her non-profit experience also includes roles at St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation and BC Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
Nancy is a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, the Canadian Public Relations Society and is an honours graduate of BCIT Event Management and Fundraising Marketing programs. Through her work in the community, Nancy discovered a love of story telling and (in her spare time!) is pursuing a certificate in Broadcast Journalism.
Giving back, sharing stories and experiences and having a passion for making dreams come true is what brought Nancy to Make-A-Wish.
A true Disney aficionado, Simon began his career at 18 when he moved from the UK to Florida to spend a year working at Epcot where he met his wife Tam. Simon represented the UK at the World Showcase and Tam represented Canada. They married in 2008 and moved to Vancouver. Inspired by witnessing many Make-A-Wish moments during his tenure at Disney, he was overjoyed to become a volunteer Wish Grantor in 2008. In 2010 Simon joined the MAWBCYK team full time and is now directing the Wish Program.
P.S. – Simon recently became a Canadian Citizen!

“For as long as I can remember I knew I was going to work with children.”
Not sure of the direction Michaela would take, she completed her degree in Developmental Psychology and after testing the waters in the world of Social Work is excited to help make wishes come true here at Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon.
Working with inspiring families and the opportunity to enrich the human spirit is truly Michaela’s passion.
In her spare time Michaela keeps busy running around the North Shore with her two golden retrievers.

Paco has been the office mascot since 2005. Besides attending Board Meetings (although he is a NON-voting member!), Paco’s duties include greeting everyone who drops by, accepting cookies from the Fed Ex guy and keeping all the staff’s blood pressure readings in check! He gladly accepts tummy rubs and loves to nap while his Dad, CEO Ross Hetherington works. While he occasionally lets out a security “woof”, he is actually quite a marshmallow who just wants to play every chance he gets.
This Sunday we lost a very special friend from our Make-A-Wish team. Kia’s official family was with Simon & Tam, but we all were her extended family during the week.
Kia was very small in stature, but big in personality and although she is gone, she will not be forgotten.
Thank-you Kia for making our office just that much brighter.
Our mission at Make-A-Wish ® BC & Yukon is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon was the first Canadian Chapter of Make-A-Wish. Since 1983, we have granted over 1,600 wishes for children in our region. This year we hope to grant 100 more.
