About Make-A-Wish

Our mission at Make-A-Wish® BC & Yukon is to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength, and joy.

Make-A-Wish BC & Yukon was the first Canadian Chapter and the first chapter outside of the United States.  Since 1983, we have granted over 1,600 wishes for children in our region.  With your help, this year we hope to grant over 100 more.

The BC Chapter was founded by Nigel Brown and Robb Lucy who were inspired by a TV story on Make-A-Wish America’s launch in Phoenix in 1980 and decided to start up the Make-A-Wish Foundation in Canada.

Debbie Gutz first Cdn wish

Armed with zealous enthusiasm, personal credit cards and a large network of friends, they set to work granting their first wish – providing a young woman named Debbie with a trip to Germany to meet her grandmother.

Sadly, Debbie passed away shortly after her wish, but the concept endures to this day.

“Every day a story has been retold, a giggle shared or some pictures viewed.”
